At Inspirations for Youth and Families (IYF) we allow teens to use art as a means to express themselves. Art is a very expressive form of therapy that our clients often enjoy and look forward to. Art therapy encourages self discovery and is a great form of coping.
IYF’s art therapy includes drawing, painting, sculptures and collages. Our therapists often reference what our teens created during their art sessions as a way to teach proper communication and critical thinking skills. Building the bridge from artistic to verbal expression is a great form of healing.
Here are some additional benefits and skills you gain:
- Personal Fulfillment
- Stress Relief
- Critical Thinking
As a part of an art therapy assignment some of our teens were asked to create collages that represented themselves and collages that reflected an emotion or part of themselves they were feeling.
Here are some examples of our clients’ work:

Our art therapy has inspired one of our clients to use art outside of therapy. He took inspiration from the band Sublime and drew these amazing images!
