With the Christmas season upon us our teens in drug and alcohol rehab baked Christmas themed treats for their fellow clients and Inspirations for Youth and Families staff. Our drug and alcohol rehab clients were taught how to prep, cook and decorate these treats as a part of our Nutritional program.
Many of our teens were delighted to bake and decorate these sweet treats on their own. Our clients also expressed that they were excited to learn baking so they can eventually make them at home for friends and family.
Try baking your own with our recipes below:
2 ¾ cups of all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon baking powder
1 cup butter
1 ½ cup of white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups of Hershey kisses
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In a small bowl stir flour, baking soda and powder together.
In a larger bowl cream together butter until it and sugar are smooth. Beat egg and vanilla together. Blend together all the ingredients. Roll rounded teaspoons if dough into balls onto cookie sheets.
Place in oven until it rises and has a soft center (approximately 10 min.)
Place Hershey kisses into the center of cookie and leave to cool then serve!
Tip: You can also decorate with frosting like our teens did!
1 cup butter (melted)
3 cups white sugar
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
