Juan is a teen in recovery who just completed the Inspirations for Youth and Families teen rehab program. While he was there, Juan performed a rap song, which he perfected at the teen rehabs noted music therapy program. Inspirations music therapy is headed by a man named “Big Apple,” who is a 40-year professional drummer and performs in a local South Florida band.

Juan’s Rap Song he produced while recovering at Inspirations

“When I first came to Inspirations they said I had to stay sober. Thinking to myself my life was over. I had seen it all and done it all like a soldier. I don’t have to take a puff of weed just to get by. I can hang out with my family without taking smoke breaks and take my brother down the street and go fishing at the lake.”

“I think this is the first time my family has seen me smile. The last time was when I was a child. It has been a long while. At first everything was a mess, but now it is in place. I guess god answered me every time I would pray. So whenever you feel down make sure to keep your faith. You can do anything you dream if you can have god’s grace.”

The Inspirations for Youth and Families post rap Interview

Inspirations: How did it go for you at Inspirations?
Juan: It was great. I learned a lot while I was here. It changed my life in different types of ways. It did a lot for me. It made me closer to my family and to myself. Now I can finally be who I was supposed to be without getting high.

Inspirations: How long were you here?
Juan: I have been here about 90 days.

Inspirations: And it takes 90 days to recover?
Juan: And it is all worth it.

Inspirations was great. I learned a lot while I was here. It changed my life in different types of ways. It did a lot for me. It made me closer to my family and to myself. Now I can finally be who I was supposed to be without getting high.

Inspirations: How about if you only stayed for 30 days were you ready to go home? Did you think you had it all down?
Juan: I thought I was ready, but I wasn’t. If I had left after one month, I probably would have gone back to doing drugs and being here longer I learned more. It is all worth it at the end of the day and it makes your life better. This is just the beginning of the journey. Once I leave here I get to put the tools I learned in action and be an example instead of a follower.

Inspirations: I think you are going to be an example and you just opened up a new career in rapping. It was amazing
Juan: I never rapped before. I recommend people to come to Inspirations. I love Inspirations and it changed my life.
