New Mannequin Challenge sheds light on the worst parts of heroin addiction!
What is the Mannequin Challenge
The mannequin challenge is a viral internet video trend where people remain frozen like mannequins while the camera pans through telling a story. This is usually while the popular song Black Beatles by Rae Sremmurd plays in the background. Since its inception, the trend has been done by students, professors, and celebrities. Its popularity also stemmed from sharing the hashtag #mannequinchallenge on various social media sites.
How does it relate to the Heroin Epidemic
Now the trend has been revolutionized to bring awareness to a wide range of topics including the heroin epidemic.
How the mannequin challenge brought awareness to the heroin epidemic
As we all know the heroin epidemic has taken over not only the United States but other countries around the world. In a time with so much readily accessible information it is hard to believe so many are still falling prey to this dangerous drug.
However, we are also in a time when people across the world are able to raise millions for ALS through the Ice Bucket Challenge video trend. This same idea fueled Youtubers Bly and Ay to work with the Grant County Sheriff’s Office in Williamstown, Kentucky.
With Kentucky’s most populous county, Jefferson, seeing fatal rises in overdoses they came together and made a plan of action to raise awareness. These aspiring media moguls sought the opportunity to educate everyone on the real dangers of heroin addiction.
“This is all too of a common outcome for heroin addicts.”
-Blay, Youtube creator behind The Worst Outcome Mannequin Challenge
He has also unfortunately lost someone to addiction and their video will be able to bring awareness to the devastating damage addiction can have.
“We loved Jerry. Wish we could have got him a little more help or any help before this happened.” said Blay
We are in an age where we can rapidly connect and share with others. While we have a huge amount of information at our fingertips it is important to also spread information. Most see the heroin epidemic as something that can never happen to them although it can happen to just about anyone.
