At Inspirations for Youth and Families (IYF) we strive to educate our teens in rehab through traditional and unconventional forms. We believe in addition to being taught the standard educational information we seek to teach our teens important life lessons.
These lessons are taught in a multitude of ways including guest speakers. Inspirations has had its fair share of guest speakers and even mentors! Recently, we invited a very special guest to educate our teens on how to react to both the positive and negative effects of life.
Gen- Kelsang Norbu visits teens in rehab
Meet Gen-Kelsang Norbu. He was born and raised here in the United States and has been practicing meditation and studying the Kadampa Buddhist tradition for over 10 years. He was officially ordained a monk by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche in 2006.
Gen Norbu emphasizes the joy of meditation and teaches how to integrate Buddha’s teaching into modern life. While visiting Inspirations he taught our teens a simple meditation technique they can use when they feel they need help in focusing.

At the end of his lesson Inspirations invited Gen Norbu to enjoy some tee with our teens in rehab. The teens spent this time discovering the benefits and many combination of teas.
Our education director, Denise Achee provided fresh greens such as peppermint, basil, and more from her home garden. Our teens all loved the many combinations they could make and discovering which herb or ingredient would produce what result and taste.
We also provided our teens in rehab with some Valentines Day candy to spread the joy of this holiday and express our appreciation of taking the program and their well being seriously.
