The Back-on-Track Summer Program from Inspirations Academy has only just started and we are already off to a very good start. One of the life-skills activities above was making berry smoothies among other flavors.
To encourage better reading comprehension, diction, pronunciation, and, really, just to have a little fun, we have been reading Of Mice and Men together as a group. With discussions each day about setting and characters, this reading has culminated in a viewing of the 1992 movie based on the book.
Not only are the teens getting their summer reading on but twice a week they’re exposed to a fun and interactive nutrition class. We’ve already made Sunrise Smoothies and Fresh Apple Delight juice – we even worked together to make healthy egg-in-the-hole breakfast snacks!
One our delightful teachers, Miss Rosemary, has been heading up our Life Skills class in which the teens are learning a number of necessary and useful skills. They’ve already been shown how to create a resume – showcasing work, volunteer, and academic experience – and are continuing on with career aptitude quizzes and lessons on personal finance.
All summer long we also have our computer lab open and available to any student needing to work on making up a credit or two from the previous year or even get ahead with credit acceleration! Through our affiliation with Florida Virtual School we are able to offer students the opportunity to begin work on any number of subjects including Math, English, Science, and Social Studies but also electives and things like Drivers Education.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
