Education Director Denise Achee: Today we had a surprise visit from two old clients. Two young ladies that look absolutely beautiful and they look clean and they look like they’re back in the life game! Tell me, how have you been?
Remi C: I’ve been really good. It’s been hard. Like it was really hard at first, going home, you know? You just have to like remember and talk to people and like communicate. I have a therapist back home too.
DA: Oh you do? Okay, how is that going?
DA: It’s important to carry on your therapy.
RC: Yeah, definitely. Definitely. You always need someone to talk to about your problems.
DA: What about meetings? Are you going to meetings?
RC: Oh yeah I did check out some but they weren’t like the ones here.
DA: Oh you miss the group here?
RC: Yes! It was so comfortable and sometimes they had donuts. DA: [laughs] Those are good always, right?
RC: Yeah! It’s something about this one like all the girls are young and very like comforting and welcoming.
DA: There are some young groups so you need to find one with young people.
RC: Oh yeah.
DA: How is your school going? What’s happening with that?
RC: It’s good, it’s going really well.
DA: Are you on spring break?
DA: Oh that’s why you’re down here; you’re on spring break and thought to come back.
DA: Well thank you for visiting, it really means a lot to us!
RC: You’re welcome.
DA: It’s great to see you, especially when you’re doing fabulous. Even when you’re not we love for you to come back so we can help.
RC: Oh yeah, I feel so good. It’s so refreshing coming back here.
DA: And little miss over here, talk to us! How have you been?
Mia D: I’ve been good.
DA: What happened when you went home? How did that go?
MD: Things were smooth but you have to like…I learned a lot here about how to talk to people, like my mom. I was not good at talking to her.
DA: Okay, so you have better communication skills? Your listening may be better too.
DA: Is your mother listening to you as well?
MD: No. [laughs]
DA: [laughs] It’s a work in progress but you did a lot of work on yourself, didn’t you? And so you learned some tools and some skills. What else are you doing back home? How’s school going?
MD: I have all As and Bs.
MD: I had a job before but I quit after a year, it was terrible. So now I work at this ice cream store. I like it.
DA: And you like it? So you’re working and going to school?
DA: And you’re on spring break right now?
DA: Down in Florida.
MD: Yeah, well I live in Florida.
DA: Oh you live in Florida. So you’re visiting, that’s right. Well this meant the world to us. Thank you so much. Seeing your bright, happy faces…it’s just wonderful. Thank you so much for dropping by!
MD: It felt so good dropping by. You’re welcome.
DA: Please come by again, because we like it. When you graduate you know I always want the graduation picture, remember?
MD and Remi C: Definitely.
DA: You have to remember to send me one. I still only have one on my board [laughs].
RC: You always ask for that.
DA: I ask everyone! Maybe I’m asking too much. But thanks again for coming and we really appreciate it and I’m glad that our program was really worthwhile for both of you.
MD and RC: Yes it was. Thank you!
