Walsh
Karen Corcoran-Walsh is an owner of Inspirations for Youth
and Families, LLC aka Inspirations Teen Rehab. Karen holds
a Master of Science degree from the School of Marriage
and Family Therapy at Nova Southeastern University. Karen
has worked with children for eighteen years. |
Her experience with children includes early childhood
education and work with small children in the pre-school
setting, employment as the primary educator and elementary
teacher for elementary school aged children, junior high
school teacher, computer education teacher, high school
GED educator, a marriage and family therapist in a private
practice setting and the primary therapist for adults
of all ages for addiction treatment centers for several
years. Karen opened her own addiction treatment center
for young adults in 2002, achieving notable success in
the field of mental health, addiction treatment, and court
ordered treatment including a DUI program. The Cove Center
for Recovery is the adult addiction treatment center,
which mirrors the vision and philosophy of Inspirations.
Karen recognized the need for an adolescent treatment
program, as she received numerous calls in her adult treatment
center, from devastated and heart-broken parents of teenaged
children. With very few adolescent treatment centers to
refer parents to, Karen took it upon herself to respond
to the needs of her community by opening Inspirations
for Youth and Families, LLC in 2008. Karen chose the name
“Inspirations” to represent her vision for
parents and teens who were struggling with the chaos of
teen behaviors and substance use.
Karen designed a program for teens that reflected the
needs of parents and teens, a program unsurpassed by other
adolescent treatment programs and unlike any other treatment
center in the United States. Inspirations was designed
and developed to integrate behavior treatment, substance
use and abuse treatment, mental health treatment, and
family therapy as the cornerstone of teen treatment, with
the typical daily activities most teenagers find in their
own environment and hometowns, and an added perk
of an “on-site” junior high and high school
academy. Karen’s vision of a premier adolescent
program is evident with her approach: As teens progress
through their treatment program, family therapy is an
ongoing approach to resolving conflicts and finding solutions
to the systemic structure of a teen and parent’s
life. Daily recreational activities are used as a therapeutic
tool, providing opportunity for teens to apply the coping
skills and decision making skills they acquire in their
individual and group therapy. Life skills including meal
planning, cooking, cleaning, and laundry foster improved
self-esteem and personal accountability for each teen’s
living environment.
Karen is married to Christopher Walsh, who is her partner
in Inspirations for Youth and Families (Inspirations Teen
Rehab) and The
Cove Center for Recovery. They are parents as well
as substance abuse treatment professionals. Karen is a
mother of three children ages 21-8 years old. Karen is
currently working on several television projects focusing
on teen behaviors and teen substance abuse. Her most recent
show will be aired on Teen Talk of Becon Television. Karen
recently appeared on the Dr. Phil Show speaking as an
expert on the subject of adolescent substance abuse and
addiction. She appeared with her husband Christopher
Walsh and the chief executive officer of Inspirations
Dr. James
Hughes. Karen is currently working on the development
of a television show focusing on teen behaviors and teen
drug rehab.
Karen is a member in good standing with the American Association
of Marriage and Family Therapists (AAMFT) and the American
Psychotherapy Association (APA). She is an active member
in local Chambers of Commerce.
