Ft. Lauderdale, FL, June 16, 2014 – This July 4th, celebrate your independence from drug and alcohol addiction! Inspirations for Youth and Families teen rehab is offering four 28-day addiction treatment scholarships to four children of military veterans. Inspirations teen rehab wants to give back to our servicemen and women who risk their lives to protect the nation’s freedoms.

“We see this as an opportunity to help teenagers in our country who are struggling with addiction,” said Karen Corcoran Walsh, owner of Inspirations for Youth and Families. “Our servicemen and women have given so much to our country and we want to show our appreciation.”

Teen drug abuse, especially prescription drug use, is at an all-time high. According to statistics from the National Institute on Drug Abuse, 15% of high school seniors used a prescription drug for recreational purposes in 2013. Many teenagers abuse prescription drugs like Adderall and Ritalin which are used to treat ADHD.

“The teen brain is very malleable and early drug use has shown to significantly impair cognitive functioning,” said Dr. James Hughes, CEO of Inspirations for Youth and Families. “Early intervention is the only way to keep the brain changes caused by drug and alcohol abuse from becoming permanent.”
