Real Story
from Massachusetts on Teen Alcohol Abuse
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Press Release)
April, 2011 -- With opiate-overdose deaths currently the leading
cause of accidental death in the U.S, many believe that more
needs to be done in order to prevent the severe consequences
of opiate abuse.
District Attorney Michael Morrissey, currently serving Massachusetts Norfolk County, will soon be launching a series of cable access shows; providing parents with useful advice on how to talk to their kids about the many dangers and consequences of opiate usage.
Morrissey who believes that parents are key to stopping opiates
from consuming their children, has also emphasized the importance
of effective education; stating just how important small investments
are in education, especially when it comes to the prevention
of many senseless crimes that not only cause emotional suffering,
but who become costly and detrimental to taxpayers in already
troubled times.
Most teenagers turn to prescription drugs because they perceive
them as less dangerous than illegal drugs. Because of this,
teenage prescription drug abuse is on the rise.
Teens who abuse or are addicted to prescription opioid medications
can be treated. Initially, they may need to undergo medically
supervised detoxification to help reduce withdrawal symptoms;
however, that is just the first step. Options for effectively
treating addiction to prescription opioids are drawn from research
on treating heroin addiction. Behavioral treatments, usually
combined with medications, have been proven extremely effective.
