Florida Adderall Abuse, Adderall Addiction / Teen Addiction
Inspirations Teen Rehab is reporting an increase in the number
of teenagers who report a history of abusing Adderall or an
addiction to Adderall. Therefore, Adderall abuse and Adderall
addiction continues to remain an addiction concern by parents
and the Florida community. In November 2009, the Central Florida
website published an article on a recent study. The Alcohol
and Other Drug Prevention Programming Center conducted a self
reporting study in which 5 percent of UCF students reported
using non-prescribed stimulants annually to help with studying
for exams. Additionally, professors are also reporting use
of non-prescribed stimulants to help them stay alert, maintain
thought processes and work longer hours, according to scientists
at the University of Cambridge, who polled some of their colleagues
and found that use of these drugs isn’t only a growing
trend among students, but professors as well.
Adderall is one of many drugs or stimulants abused by teen
and adults. Adderall is known as the “smart” drug
because of the increased ability for the abuser to remain
awake and continue to function. Adderall is legally prescribed,
often to teenagers and children, in an effort to control hyperactivity
and attention deficit disorder. Adderall is a central nervous
system stimulant. It affects chemicals in the brain and neuroreceptors
that contribute to hyperactivity, allowing the user to control
impulses. Adderall is also prescribed to treat narcolepsy.
Adderall releases the medicine slowly if taken as prescribed,
which is swallowed whole. When Adderall is abuse, which is
usually broken open and chewed, the drug is released too quickly.
Some teenagers can handle Adderall without over-dosing. However,
if a teen takes too much for the body to handle, it can be
life-threatening. “An overdose of Adderall can still
be fatal”, according to www.drugs.com.
Adderall abuse and addiction is a behavior best resolved
by the teen struggling with Adderall, entering an
adolescent addiction treatment center. Inspirations
Teen Rehab is a teen drug abuse treatment center, nationally
recognized for outstanding therapeutic approaches in working
with teen drug abuse and teen behavior.
